Hey everyone! This is Willy and welcome back to my podcast! Today I will be talking about: Is it advisable to engage influencers who are already selling their own products.

Let's break this down into 2 categories of Amazon sellers right now -

So there are 2 types of sellers: 1. New sellers and 2. Veteran sellers

And let's imagine you are selling coffee presses.

For new sellers who are selling coffee presses, I will find influencers who love coffee and they make their coffee from coffee presses. I will not find influencers who sell coffee press OR sell coffee-making items that can complement your coffee press.

But it is different for veteran sellers and I will come to that in a minute.

New sellers always want to focus on one thing: traffic. Traffic will bring about product awareness and thus will bring about sales. That way, you will need to find influencers who talk about coffee and making coffee using coffee presses. Basically, find influencers who use coffee presses, not sell them.

But veteran sellers want to maintain sales and also want to scale up their profits. How do they do that? They can collaborate with influencers who sell their own coffee-making products. I remember that day our team collaborate with an influencer who sells grounded coffee and also another influencer who sells coffee grinders. So with a three-directional marketing campaign, we are able to build a small community and we can cross-sell to each other's audiences and followers. That is a win-win-win for all three brands!

Basically, the answer is 'yes' and 'no'. It totally depends on what stage you are at right now and what is the number one thing that you should focus on!

You might ask: can I do both? Sure! If you are a new seller and you have some customers or potential customers on your waiting list wanting to buy from you, you can collaborate with other sellers to do up a cross-sell campaign to bring awareness and eyeballs to each other. You can even use Twitter to mention each other prior to your upcoming launch, and that will be a win-win situation for all!
