Hey everyone, this is Willy from WAH Academy and today I am talking about “Is it advisable to hire a VA when you are not proficient in your eCommerce business?”
The short answer is ‘Yes, it is advisable.’ But the long answer is: when you start your ecommerce business, you will start with product research, looking for suppliers, gathering quotations, doing product review analysis, etc.
Let’s talk about product research. This stage you will understand how to do it in just about 1 week, if you spend 1 to 2 hours a day. So that’s a total of 14 hours understanding what kind of products to go for, what kind of products to avoid, etc.
After spending a total of 14 hours, more or less, you will have a vague idea how to do this. And you can ask yourself if you can outsource this task to a VA, to a virtual assistant.
Likewise for talking to supplier, gathering quotations, etc. Once you do it a few times over a few days, you can outsource to a VA to let the VA handle this.
So of course there are problems like the VA will not understand how to do it well, but there is no such thing as “well”, because it is always learning in progress.
When you have a VA, both of you will learn together. For your part, you will go through with the VA to see if the VA’s work makes sense. If it doesn’t, get the VA to find out.
The VA will need to have the initiative and personal responsibility to go and find out. You do not want to have a VA who always sit around on their thumbs and wait for instructions from you.
So you might ask, do I need to hire a VA with experience or no experience? To that, it depends. There are some VAs I need to hire with experience, like VAs who do video editing, VAs who do data crunching, VAs who do logistics and inventory management, VAs who do accounting. But when I started this Amazon eCommerce journey, I hired my first product researcher and she got no experience at all.
But she is very responsible with her work and I salute her for that
So I coach her from ground up while training my coaching skills as a business owner.
A successful business owner will not know everything. But he or she must be able to coach and manage people who is able to do certain things better than him or her.
That is why in short, you need to hire whenever you have the chance at the start. It might be daunting but you will get better eventually.
I hope this episode adds some value to you, and I will see you at my next episode.
