One problem a lot of new business owners on Amazon run into is that they absolutely have no idea of what products to sell. Then some experienced Amazon sellers will come along and tell you: “Oh, just go do some research, things will turn out fine!” You follow their advice, and the next you know, you ended up with too much information and you still couldn’t decide what products you want to sell.

So in this post, I am going to give you a few reliable places you can look around when you are on your brainstorming process.

#1: Amazon’s Best Seller Lists

Yes, you are seeing it correct – do a search on Amazon itself to find product ideas to focus on! In case you don’t know before, Amazon has several Best Seller Lists which you can look into. You will get a general idea of what successful sellers on Amazon are selling, and thus catch some hints of emerging and trending markets, such as drone-racing, augmented reality or any other industries. You can even toggle the option to find the Best Seller Lists in the different countries that you are selling your products to, so you narrow down your products niches more effectively.

#2: Gadget blogs and trend sites

Another idea is to look around on interesting blogs and trend websites like Pinterest. These sites normally have collections of the best, and most in-trend products in many different categories. You can subscribe to their mail lists and thus get weekly updates on trendy items that may not be on Amazon. Just imagine: with just a simple click, fresh ideas are delivered for free to your email address. Isn’t it great?

#3: Research tools and websites

Below are two of my favorite research tools and websites to go to when I am brainstorming for my products: Jungle Scout and Google Trends.

Jungle Scout is a paid website that can extract sales rank, sales volume, FBA fees, categories, and more. It is now available in almost all countries where Amazon is present. Though it is a paid tool, it is probably the most advanced when it comes to researching Amazon and finding products with great potential.

On the other hand, Google Trends is a great tool for researching design trends, and therefore can help you get a rough idea of the most popular and trendy items currently. You can then decide which of the items you want to bring to your Amazon store.

#4: Sourcing sites

You can also look to sourcing sites like Alibaba and Global Sources for your product ideas. These websites are very popular for finding manufacturers and suppliers, but they can also be used to inform you about new and trending product niches. Simply type “newest products” in the search boxes, and you’ll find a lot of the newest and trendiest items from their suppliers.

There are still many more of these websites out there, so do explore around when you are trying to find items to sell on Amazon!

#5: Get out in the world

Do get out in the world to see what are the most sought-after products! Any Amazon seller will tell you, if you want to get a realistic sensing of what the market really needs, you cannot be stuck behind a computer screen all day long. Below are three places that I suggest you can start off with.

  1. Trade shows: There are dozens of trade shows in many countries. During trade shows, you get to meet the supplier, see the products and talk over details such as prices, models, and much more. I guarantee you, you will definitely get inspired with new product ideas at trade shows. So just Google an exhibition center near you, browse their upcoming events and look out for any trade shows. Register for a ticket and get started!
  2. Shopping malls: Another way to find new products is simply when you are out in a shopping mall or at a local store. To start your own import business means that you are also working when you are out shopping with friends or family! Keep your eyes open, and when you see something cool, make a reminder for yourself to look the product up later
  3. Traveling: Traveling is also a great way to find ideas. When you are out of your country or state, you are likely to see items that you can’t find locally. It’s always worth checking such ideas out – even an idea that at first seems like nothing could be worth millions. Discuss it with a few friends and brainstorm what you could do with it. Who knows, it may become a great hit when you bring these products to your local markets or other places which haven’t seen these products yet!

I hope you enjoy this post. Do stay tuned for more tips like this! See you!
