Do you look forward to working by yourself?

Are you someone who will work at one thing consistently to see success?

And have you ever aspired to build your very own business?

If you answer “yes” to all the above questions, then bingo – you are a thorough solopreneur at heart and at mind!

A solopreneur is a business owner who works on his or her business alone. What solopreneurs need is just a laptop or any mobile devices that can connect to the Internet and they are good to go. Solopreneurs will determine their own work hours and where they want to work, be it by the beach, in their own houses, or in a small quiet cafe off the busy city districts. Meanwhile, they will never need to worry about being laid off – as they are their own bosses. Neither will solopreneurs need to face the woes of managing relationships with colleagues, superiors, or juniors, for all they have is themselves and themselves alone. Be sure to check out WAH Academy to learn more.

In today’s business world, solopreneurship is slowly becoming a rising trend, thanks to increasingly sophisticated technology. Yet some may find the concept of solopreneurship scary – after all, not everyone is comfortable with the idea of running a whole business by themselves alone. But let me highlight a few more perks that a solopreneur enjoys, and you can decide for yourself if these are enough to outweigh the cons of being a solopreneur.

1. No need to answer to anyone

Solopreneurs have the freedom to grow their own businesses as they like. They can run and manage their businesses at their own pace, for they are the ones to set their KPIs. While this also means they fully bear the consequences of their actions, it isn’t nearly as frightening as perceived. if you look at it from a different perspective, this implies that solopreneurs don’t have the pressure of ensuring other people’s livelihoods when starting their business. As long as what they do is not against human morals and does not violate the laws, no one will blame them for a not-so-perfect decision. And in the worst of scenarios, should they realize that their venture is not going to end up well, they can start all over again, without feeling the guilt of not being able to give out pay to their employees.

2. See the direct link between the efforts put in and rewards gained

As solopreneurs, it is easy to see the links between the amount of effort put in and the rewards gained. To put it simply, it means if you are willing to take on more work, you can make more money. There is a sense of control: it will be entirely your choice to decide how much you want to make. Earning enough to survive for yourself is therefore not going to be a problem if you are a hard worker. That said, you must also be aware of burnout. Solopreneurs always have a lot of things on their plates, since they usually don’t have employees to delegate tasks to. Hence, in the pursuit of their entrepreneurial goals, they are more prone to experiencing burnout than others. Do take breaks often, and don’t be hesitant to reach out for help if required!

3. Flexibility of careers

One can never overlook the flexibility that comes with being a solopreneur. Without having a boss who breathes down your neck all the time, you can choose to work in sprints, then stop working when you have used up all your mental energy. And as there is no need for meetings, group discussions, conferences, etc, your work time will be much more concentrated. Most probably you will find that you are able to fit more productivity into fewer hours.

Other than that, solopreneurs are also not tied down by their professions. They can easily change career paths if they wish to, so long as they acquire the necessary skillsets for other professions. For example, I have once come across a freelance game designer changing career paths to become an Amazon seller selling clothes, and then a YouTube influencer who helps to promote tribal accessories from small brands. And now, he’s on the way to opening his first marketing agency! So, as long as you are willing to keep an open mind and continue learning, there will be no lack of business opportunities for you!

There are certainly more benefits that come with being a solopreneur. Solopreneurship is not for everyone, but if you think that you are cut out to be an entrepreneur who is willing to work towards your goals with a never-give-up attitude, then you should definitely consider becoming a solopreneur. It will be a great learning experience for you and be assured that you will be able to develop yourself to your fullest potential by taking up this path.

So, are you ready to join the solopreneurs club? See you soon!
